Introduction to our staff
Dr. Herbert Rettinger
Dr. Rettinger attended the University of Rochester and then graduated with honors from St. Louis University School of Medicine. Internship and Internal Medicine residency were completed at UCI where he continued training and certification in Endocrinology and Diabetes. He is Clinical Professor of Medicine/Endocrinology at UCI School of Medicine and has a special interest in teaching thyroid ultrasound and biopsy. He also holds a chairmanship and numerous committee appointments nationally with AACE (American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists) and served as President of the California section for two years.
Dr. Rettinger lectures to physicians statewide and nationally on subjects such as diabetes management and thyroid disease, and he is the only endocrinologist in Orange County to win ‘Physician of Excellence’ for 6 consecutive years.
Dr. Priya Khanijou Shah
Dr. Shah obtained the USC Presidential Scholar Award and attended USC for both undergraduate and medical school where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and with medical school honors. Internship and Internal Medicine residency training, along with Endocrinology fellowship, were completed at University of California, San Diego.
She trained with international leaders in diabetes management.
Dr. Shah has a special interest in diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis and PCOS. She is fluent in Spanish and joined Endocrinology Medical Group of Orange County in 2010, upon completion of her training.
Dr. Shah teaches medical students and fellows at UCSD Medical Center and holds the title of Assistant Clinical Professor.
Dr. Sarah Rettinger
Dr. Rettinger graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University and then with honors from Yale University School of Medicine. She did her internship and Internal Medicine residency training at University of California, San Francisco, and endocrine fellowship at UCLA/Cedars/Westside VA. She trained under some of the most prominent specialists in pituitary, thyroid and diabetes.
She brings a wealth of knowledge with special interest in pituitary diseases, diabetes and PCOS. Dr. Rettinger is fluent in Spanish and joined Endocrinology Medical Group of Orange County in 2007. She rejoined post-endocrine training in 2011.
Dr. Aaron N. Rockoff
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Aaron Rockoff to our practice in consultative endocrinology.
Dr. Rockoff graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BS in Computational Chemistry and ultimately worked four years in software engineering. Medical school and residency were completed in his home state of New Jersey, followed by Endocrine fellowship at University of California, Irvine where we’ve worked with him for the past two years. We feel he will be a very strong addition to our endocrine group.
He has a particular interest and expertise in Dyslipidemia – recently contributed a chapter on this subject to a newly published Lipid book– diabetes, osteoporosis and thyroid pathology, including ultra sound and diagnostic biopsy.
He and his wife reside in Irvine with their three small children.

Editha Gutierrez, MSN, ANP-C
Edith joined Endocrinology Medical Group in 1999. She graduated from the University of the Philippines where she received a BSN with Honors.
She completed her training at Cal. State University earning a Master of Science in the Nursing Program and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is Board Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and a Clinical Professor of Nursing. Edith teaches part-time at West Coast University within the Bachelors Nursing Program in Anaheim, CA. Prior to joining EMGOC, she was a critical-care supervising nurse for post heart surgery patients. Edith is fluent in Spanish and Tagalog, and has abundant training and experience in endocrine diseases and diabetes.
